7th Avenue to the Hudson River Today was a mix of emotions as I ran into many old friends from the past. Starting out at Hudson River Park. Saddened by the gentrification happening in New York and most large cities. The displacement. The never going back. The desire to remember, feel, know what was. Today ends the 2024 Art in Odd Places. My journey led me to you continues. Thanks so much to the festival organizers and volunteers. Art in Odd Places (AiOP) 2024: CARE is curated by Patricia Miranda and Christopher Kaczmarek. The Evolution of 14th Street Having walked 14th street for decades, it is amazing all the changes. Big box stores are moving in. Areas once gritty now squeaky clean. As rental prices continue to increase the idea of temporary art and performance continues to decrease. Many might embrace this change. Others long for days gone by. Change is becoming increasingly harder for me. As with this project, nostalgia and remembering are often all we have left.  Art in Odd Places (AiOP) 2024: CARE is curated by Patricia Miranda and Christopher Kaczmarek.   The first day of letting go. Revisiting 14th Street yesterday morning, remembering previous projects as I walked along. Searching for locations to place, hang, stand my historic photographs. How long will they survive? Who will take them? Will someone be moved by an encounter? How do I feel? I admit that releasing some of the photos is not as easy. A bit separation anxiety.  A bit profound loss. It brings up so many emotions just the simple action of leaving  photographs in the city I love. ¿Cómo me siento?

My journey led me to you Family 1961 Prior to my Mother's death in 2018, she divided up family photographs between me and my 2 siblings. My journey led me to you is a selection of these photographs from this inherited family archive.  Installed along 14th Street in Manhattan, these nostalgic "mini memorials" give passersby a chance to reflect upon their own childhoods, family dynamics and personal experiences as I leave pieces of my life along the way. My journey led me to you kicks off today i...

Time to go. After several months (or 63 years) of preparing for this exhibition,  it is time to travel to New York City. Studio work table materials I am excited to exhibit so many of my historic photographs in a city that has provided so many opportunities for me over the decades.  Reverse side of historic frame. These images will be exhibited along 14th Street from the East Village to the Hudson River and other locations of personal significance. The festival kicks off October 18.  Follow the festival at Instagram @ArtinOddPlaces Official festival hashtag #AIOPCare Art in Odd Places (AiOP) 2024: CARE is curated by Patricia Miranda and Christopher  Kaczmarek.
