Family 1961

Prior to my Mother's death in 2018, she divided up family photographs between me and my 2 siblings. My journey led me to you is a selection of these photographs from this inherited family archive. 
Installed along 14th Street in Manhattan, these nostalgic "mini memorials" give passersby a chance to reflect upon their own childhoods, family dynamics and personal experiences as I leave pieces of my life along the way.

Antes de la muerte de mi madre en 2018, ella dividió las fotografías familiares entre mis dos hermanos y yo. Mi viaje me llevó a ti es una selección de estas fotografías de este archivo familiar heredado.
Instalados a lo largo de la calle 14 en Manhattan, estos nostálgicos "mini monumentos" brindan a los transeúntes la oportunidad de reflexionar sobre sus propias infancias, dinámicas familiares y experiencias personales mientras dejo fragmentos de mi vida en el camino.

 Further reflexion on revisiting Mexico Emotions certainly ran high through my days spent in Mexico. Seems memories lurked around each corner. Some of the best days of my life were spent here. The 2 people I use tot ravel to Mexico with have both passed away .  I imaged them with me as I walked this vast  metropolis. One night me, Melindo, and our friend Leonel went to visit Tenampa. Tenampa was made famous being mentioned in various 1960's  songs by some of Mexico's most legendary singers. Tenampa is a mariachi bar located in Plaza Garibaldi. The last time I was in Plaza Garibaldi was with my friend Bill Bayes. "Bill and I at Plaza Garibaldi 2002" Bill owned Ansley Art and Frame in Atlanta and had framed my work for years. The Journey Begins

 Before my Mother died in 2018, she divided up the old family photographs and memorabilia between my brother, sister, and me. Both my brother and sister have children in which to pass on the family history...I do not. This project was born out of the hope and need to find answers, to connect to others, to be remembered. Utilizing vintage picture frames, old photos, and memorabilia, I will leave these items in familiar places and other locations I find along the way. Each photograph will be printed with this blog address and an embedded QR code. It is my hope that the passersby will be moved and intrigued by their encounters with these historic memorials and take time to research and comment on their findings.  Thank you for your interest in My journey led me to you.  Rio If I was going to run away and hide from the world,  I just might pick Rio de Janeiro. A certain casualness and realness with an unmatchable landscape/seascape.  I had booked enough nights here to relax and explore areas  off the guided tours path. Terry and Kim on Rua Bolivar. I had an roommate in the 1980s that fell in love with Rio  and moved there.  Have not heard from him in years. I imagined running into him on Copacabana Beach. Terry and Dad 1961 in Santa Teresa The old neighborhood of Santa Teresa was a place of deep reflection and history. Would loved to have had more time to wander these steep streets. Perhaps another time. The last day there was beautiful. Perfect weather and time to think about just how fortunate I am to have been able to spend a week here. I can only hope that someone encounters my photographs and takes a few moments to slow down, reflect and breath.
