The emotional return to Mexico City.

Late in 2024, I was asked by Pablo Solano

to show my paintings at his gallery, Galeria POZO.

I had met Pablo in Quetzaltenango last year as

he travels to "Xela" several times a year.

We had an immediate connection.

"Terry 1963"

"Terry 1963" left in Pablo's studio in Tultepec

I thought this would be a great opportunity and an excuse to visit Mexico again.

I could have not asked for more in an exhibition.

Love was everywhere.

Hard to believe it had been 29 years (1996) since first coming to Mexico City.

That was my first international trip traveling with my dear friend, Richard Crowe.

We would meet his friend, Rodrigo, who lived in the city.

The reason for going to Mexico was to travel to Tomatlan, Veracruz to

visit the former home and grave of my late partner, Carlos Breton Garcia (Tirso).

Carlos died of AIDS on August 15,1995.

A Tuesday night at 8:52 pm.

One never forgets the time and place.

Richard, Rodrigo, and I would spend one week in the capitol and

one week in Tomatlan.

Richard and I would visit Mexico several more times.

Richard died 14 years ago leaving a hole in my life that cannot be filled.

Rodrigo has since moved to Aguascalientes in central Mexico.

Wandering these streets again has brought on a flood

of sadness and loss.

It was important to stay in our hotel, Hotel Gillow.

Eat breakfast at El Popular.

Stroll Alameda Park.

It is in the historic center on Cinco de Mayo that I left this photo of

Richard taken at Benito Juarez Airport in 1998.

Richard loved Mexico City and never had a chance to return.

I can only hope that he is somehow here again.

I never knew when or if I would return.

A million thanks to Pablo.

This city and country will always be a part of me.
