A day at sea

I have a problem relaxing.

It usually takes 4 days away from my day-to-day to be able to slightly let go. This trip proved to be no exception.

After a day at sea we arrived to Montevideo. A spotless town even when rain drenched.

I envisioned a life in this small country. A country very forward thinking...and acting.

I left a photograph here, near the port, in the afternoon rain.

A return to the ship and the following day an early morning arrival to Buenos Aires.

I had always imagined how wonderful this South American mega city would be.

With her endless boulevards and parks, Buenos Aires is vast.

It was here that we visited the art museum, MALBA.

It was here that I encountered a painting by Antonio Berni that made me weep. That has only happened twice before.

The following day we were invited to the home of Mirta Toledo.  I would be curating a show for her in our town of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala and having lunch with her was delightful.

In Mirta Toledo's dining room.

Her warmth and joy prompted me to leave a photograph in her dining room.

Just being with her was so refreshing and hopeful. Such a wonderful day giving me pause and time to appreciate life. Her light shines brightly.

The world needs more Mirta Toledos.
