Hola Santiago.

Santiago has been on my radar for decades for no apparent reason.
I knew nothing about this place.
It is just a place I needed to visit.

Santiago ha estado en mi radar durante décadas sin razón aparente.
No sabía nada de este lugar.
Simplemente era un lugar que necesitaba visitar.

Last year while planning this trip, I learned someone I had known
for years playing volleyball had moved to Santiago.
Yet another reason to go.
It was so great to see Drew again and delve into the past
and share our love and happiness with 
relocating to Latin America.
I had not had an opportunity to have such a conversation. 
Thank you Drew.

El año pasado, mientras planeaba este viaje, me enteré de que alguien a quien conocía desde hacía años jugando al voleibol se había mudado a Santiago.
Otra razón más para ir.
Fue genial volver a ver a Drew y rememorar el pasado y compartir nuestro amor y felicidad al mudarnos a Latinoamérica.
No había tenido la oportunidad de tener una conversación así.

The following day we took a tour that included a stop at the 
former home and museum of Pablo Neruda. 
Neruda's beautiful writings have inspired me for decades. 
In the afternoon we visited various sites 
where much of Chile's political unrest and abuses occurred, 
As an artist who produces memorials honoring the victims
of political and religious abuses, 
Chile inspired.

Al día siguiente hicimos un recorrido que incluyó una parada en la antigua casa y museo de Pablo Neruda.
Los hermosos escritos de Neruda me han inspirado durante décadas.
Por la tarde, visitamos varios lugares donde ocurrieron gran parte de la inestabilidad política y los abusos en Chile.
Como artista que crea memoriales en honor a las víctimas de abusos políticos y religiosos, Chile me inspiró.

 Further reflexion on revisiting Mexico Emotions certainly ran high through my days spent in Mexico. Seems memories lurked around each corner. Some of the best days of my life were spent here. To the bottom of the world and heading back north We made it around the tip of South America and arrived at the Falkland Islands. Being so close to Antartica brought on unexpected feelings of being on the edge of earth and wanting to go further. I have never had a desire to visit Antartica before today. Perhaps it was all the refrigerator magnets and sweatshirts at all the shops of Ashuaia, Argentina. Somehow the idea of isolation and detachment has become more desirable.  Something to consider.  The Falkland Islands have been a land of wars and uprisings for generations. The strategic location has been coveted by many countries.  Port Stanley, a small town of 3,600 is her capitol and a simple place with more people than trees and many more penguins than people. This is their world. The simple architecture and a handful of gifts shops anxiously await the next cruise ship's arrival which doubles the population if only for a day. The Journey Begins

 Before my Mother died in 2018, she divided up the old family photographs and memorabilia between my brother, sister, and me. Both my brother and sister have children in which to pass on the family history...I do not. This project was born out of the hope and need to find answers, to connect to others, to be remembered. Utilizing vintage picture frames, old photos, and memorabilia, I will leave these items in familiar places and other locations I find along the way. Each photograph will be printed with this blog address and an embedded QR code.
